Abstract
This paper explores the ramifications high-stakes standardized testing has on the young children in the United States today. In this paper, the history of standardized testing and importance of imaginative play in early education is discussed, focusing on the negative and positive qualities of high-stakes tests. The conclusion that these types of standardized tests impact the students in a harmful way is drawn.
